Héloïse Darves was born in Paris, France, and became an architect out of her love for this city. From childhood she had been practicing various arts, then architecture practice developed her fascination with imaginary worlds, delicate atmospheres and theoretical thinking. She studied architecture at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Malaquais (Paris) and arts at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Milano-Brera (Italy). Her architecture thesis Building on a living world was awarded Best Master’s thesis by the Maison de l’Architecture d’Ile-de-France (Paris).
After graduating, she moved for three years to Tokyo, Japan, to join junya.ishigami+associates architecture studio, internationally recognized for its avant-garde and poetic approach of the architectural project. Some of this architectural work and artistic production was featured at the Fondation Cartier pour l’Art Contemporain in Paris (France, 2018), Power Station of Art in Shanghai, (China, 2019) and Venice Biennale (Italy, 2021) amongst others. This journey exploring the limits of spatial possibilities and designing dreamy projects, from great scales to handmade artworks, encouraged her to dive deeper in her own artistic universe.
Now based in Paris, she works independently as an architect and an artist. Her artistic work was featured in shows including in the CICA museum in Gimpo (South Korea, 2023), BlackBox gallery in Portland (USA, 2023) and Fiera di Milano (Italy, 2022). In every medium she uses, she preserves a strong connection to her practice of designing space. As she does with architecture, she seeks to create artworks the same way she would create places and atmospheres that inspire silence, void, and light.
